VETERANS SERVICES
Open Plains Transit is honored to be the Volunteer Coordinator for the VA Highly rural Transportation Grant for all thirty-nine eligible counties within Nebraska.
What is HRTG? The Highly Rural Transportation Grants (HRTG) is a grant-based program that assists Veterans in highly rural areas with travel to local, or out-of-town VA or VA-authorized healthcare facilities. This program is specifically for rural and frontier counties with fewer than seven people per square mile.
· There is no cost to participate in the program for Veterans who live in an eligible county where services are available
· VA Transportation Benefits (TB) are irrelevant and have no bearing on this program
· The healthcare appointment must be pre-authorized (vetted)
· There is no cost to counties or public transit agencies, but if the funds are not used by each county every year, they are lost.
If you are a Veteran residing in one of the blue-colored counties on the map below, please give us a call today. We'll get you registered (it takes approximately two minutes) and we'll connect with the appropriate transportation resource to get you to the healthcare you deserve.
